CONTEXT
Jem Ferments is a sparkling probiotic beverage company based in Washington D.C. After creating the recipes for their drinks, they needed a full brand and package design for their new product. This project was my first opportunity to expand beyond digital and print design, moving into consumer packaging ☺️
THE GOAL
Our goal was to centralize important student resources into one easy to use app for all needs.
Fun & simple: the founders of Jem Ferments indicated that they wanted the beverages to evoke a fun and simple vibe that makes the drink pop!
Complete brand design: as a new company, Jem Ferments required a complete brand design, including logo, style guide, and packaging
Ideation
Because this was my first time working on packaging design, I admittedly spent many hours browsing Whole Foods and local grocery stores studying beverage packaging (craft beers, sparkling water, etc.) to draw inspiration and better understand the differences between digital and packaging. One of the biggest takeaways is that space is a commodity and you have to use it wisely!
Can design
After sketching out initial can designs, I created the high fidelity designs in Illustrator. I opted for a hand-written font for a playful vibe, as well as using bold colors with the emphasis on flat icon imagery at the center. I created 3 designs for all of the flavors: black cherry lemon, strawberry lime, and orange ginger.
